I spent $3,000 on college counseling.
Then I built something better.

During junior year, I was mostly on my own. No one in my family had been through the American college application system. My school counselor helped where she could, but like most counselors she was stretched across hundreds of students, so a lot of the process still came down to figuring it out myself.

So I paid over $3,000 for a private college counselor. Money my family stretched to afford. What I got was disappointing. Generic school lists pulled from the same databases anyone can access. Essay feedback that barely went beyond “make it more personal.” Deadline reminders I could’ve set up in Google Calendar. Ten hours of someone’s time at $300 an hour, for decisions that would shape the next four years of my life.

The thing that stuck with me: most of what they did wasn’t hard. The school matching was filtering a database. The essay coaching was pattern recognition. The organization was a spreadsheet. I was paying thousands for work that technology could do better, faster, and for a fraction of the cost.

Blueprint is my answer to that. It’s not a VC-funded startup with a marketing budget. I’m bootstrapping this with my own savings, months after finishing the same application process myself. I built it because I think every student, not just the ones who can scrape together $3,000, deserves real guidance through the application process.
