How does the estimator calculate net cost?

We use data from the College Scorecard API, which includes actual net prices broken down by family income bracket. This is real data reported by colleges to the Department of Education, not estimates or projections.

Is this the same as a college's net price calculator?

It's faster and broader. Instead of filling out each school's 20-minute calculator individually, Blueprint shows you estimated net costs for every school on your list at once, side by side. Individual school calculators may be slightly more precise for one school, but Blueprint gives you every school at once.

Does it include scholarships?

The estimates include institutional grants and federal aid based on your income bracket. Merit scholarships vary by student and aren't included in the base estimate, but we flag schools known for generous merit aid so you can factor that into your planning.

How accurate are the estimates?

The data comes directly from colleges' reported figures to the Department of Education. Actual costs may vary based on your specific financial situation, but these estimates are the best publicly available starting point. The same data financial aid offices use.

Is the Cost Calculator free?

How often is the cost data updated?

We pull from the College Scorecard API, which is updated annually by the Department of Education. When new data is published, Blueprint updates automatically. Nothing to do on your end.
