Speed matters when you're writing. If you have to wait 10 seconds every time you want feedback on a paragraph, you stop using the tool. We heard this from students in our beta. The feedback was useful, but the wait broke their writing flow.
What we did
We restructured how Essay Coach sends your draft to our AI pipeline. Instead of sending the entire essay for every feedback request, we now send only the changed sections along with the essay's context. This cuts processing time significantly without reducing the quality or depth of the feedback.
We also moved to streaming responses, so you start seeing feedback immediately instead of waiting for the entire analysis to complete. The result: feedback in under 3 seconds on average, compared to 8-10 seconds before.
