Sticker price is not what most families pay. Understanding net cost, financial aid, and merit scholarships can change which schools are realistic options.
Key terms
There are a few key terms to understand. Cost of Attendance (COA) is the full sticker price including tuition, room, board, and fees. Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is what financial aid formulas estimate your family can pay. Net Price is COA minus grants and scholarships, which is what you actually pay. The FAFSA is the federal form that unlocks need-based aid, and you should file it as early as possible.
